Tyre Repair in Strathfield

23 COSGROVE RD, STRATHFIELD SOUTH NSW 2136

Do your tyres need replacing? Got a puncture? Is your steering pulling to the left or right? That pulling sensation is often a sign of wheel alignment issues – and wheel alignment problems are closely tied to suspension wear, so it's worth having both checked at the same time rather than just replacing the tyres and hoping for the best.

We often overlook how important tyres are – they handle all the force of acceleration, braking, and cornering, and keep your car safely on the road. Our workshop stocks a range of well-known brands to suit all makes and models.

When to Replace Tyres

There are many factors that determine when to replace tyres – driving style, poor wheel alignment, bad roads, or incorrect pressure, to name a few. The main guide is tread depth, but age also needs to be considered when checking for roadworthiness.

By law, tyre tread depth must be at least 1.6mm. Most tyres have a built-in 'tread wear indicator' – a small bar that sits across the grooves at exactly 1.6mm. Once your tread is flush with those indicators, the tyres need replacing.

Worn or bald tyres are one of the most common reasons vehicles fail a pink slip inspection or e-safety check in NSW – so if your rego renewal is coming up, check your tread depth before you book in.

If your tyres are more than 5 years old they need to be checked annually. Beyond 10 years, replace them immediately – aged rubber deteriorates and cracks, making them genuinely unsafe regardless of tread depth.

It's best to replace all four tyres together to prevent uneven wear and keep the car riding smoothly. Your spare is for emergencies only – get the puncture repaired as soon as possible and put the spare back in storage.

How to Maximise Tyre Life

Driving smoothly – without constant sudden acceleration and hard braking – will extend tyre life significantly. Generally they should last around 40,000km or 3–4 years depending on your driving style.

Check For Uneven Wear

Uneven wear is usually caused by poor wheel alignment, worn suspension components, or incorrect tyre pressure. Run your hands across the full surface – particularly the inside of the front tyres and outer edges – and look for wear that's heavier on one side than the other. If you spot it, a suspension inspection and wheel alignment check should happen before you put new tyres on – otherwise you'll chew through the new ones just as fast.

Check Your Air Pressure

Check air pressure every couple of months – it takes five minutes at the servo and goes a long way toward extending tyre life and protecting your braking performance. Over-inflation causes the centre tread to wear faster; under-inflation causes the shoulders to wear and creates drag that hurts fuel economy. All cars have a recommended pressure plate – generally around 30psi – and your logbook service will include a tyre pressure check as standard.

Rotate Tyres Regularly

Regular rotation evens out wear between front and rear – particularly important on front-wheel-drive cars where all the torque goes through the front tyres. Tyre rotation is something we can take care of during your car service so it's never something you have to remember to book separately.

Tyres Strathfield

Did you know a tyre puncture can usually be repaired, and you'll be back on the road in around 30 minutes? Flat tyres are usually caused by a sharp object puncturing the tubeless casing. If the hole is on the main tread and less than 5mm wide, it can be repaired with a rubber plug. Anything larger, or on the shoulder or sidewall, means the tyre needs replacing.

The puncture repair process takes around 30 minutes – the tyre is deflated, removed from the rim, the hole found and fixed, then reflated and balanced before the wheel goes back on. If you're also noticing steering or suspension changes after a puncture – pulling to one side, vibration through the steering wheel – let us know and we'll check the alignment and suspension at the same time.

We service tyre customers from Burwood, Concord, Greenacre, and North Strathfield – call (02) 8074 5449 or contact us online.
