Do I Need a Car e-Safety Check?

A car e-safety check is an important part of vehicle maintenance and one that our Strathfield mechanics take seriously. While your car's performance and reliability matter, the safety of your family on the road is what really counts.
Planning a road trip? Pop in for a car e-safety check before you head off – our certified mechanics inspect your vehicle from front to back, giving you a full written report on its condition. It's also the perfect time to combine it with a logbook service or full car service so you can hit the road knowing absolutely everything's been looked at.
Roads and Maritime Services NSW require all cars more than five years old to pass an e-safety check before renewing their CTP green slip and registration. An e-safety check is the same inspection you may know as a pink slip – just the official RMS terminology for it.

Validity of eSafety Checks
Light vehicle safety check reports are valid for 6 months, so you'll need to renew your registration within that window. Light vehicles include cars, trucks less than 4.5 tonnes GVM, motorcycles, and trailers and caravans.
If it's been a while since your last proper service, it's worth booking in a logbook service at the same time – that way your rego and your service history are both sorted in one visit.
Failed e-Safety Checks
If your vehicle is deemed unroadworthy and fails the safety check, you won't be able to renew your registration. You'll be issued with a Repairs Needed report (white slip) and have 14 days to complete the required repairs.
The most common reasons vehicles fail an e-safety check in NSW are worn brake pads or discs, tyres below the legal tread depth, suspension wear, faulty lights or auto electrical components, and engine or exhaust issues. The good news is we can handle all of those mechanical repairs right here on-site – bring it back within 14 days and the re-inspection is free of charge.
If repairs are completed outside of the 14 days, a new assessment and fee applies.
Your final report will be sent electronically to Roads and Maritime Services on your behalf. You'll need a paid CTP policy to complete your registration.
